Chicago “Windy Wedding Giveaway” sets sail for causes close to home. Small business owners unite to donate an innovative, green wedding and cross-promote businesses they believe in.
Chicago, IL May 9, 2010 – While discussing Chicago must-dos, five friends and colleagues were motivated to throw a wedding featuring signature summer experiences. The Windy Wedding Giveaway was created to bring together Chicago classics mixed with modern takes on places locals love. The Windy Wedding partners are passionate about summer, outstanding green businesses and enjoying all Lake Michigan has to offer, now and for future generations; the Windy City shares these initiatives. Tall Ship Adventures of Chicago, Great Lakes Events, Liven It Up Events and Appease spa were the core businesses that made the first Windy Wedding Giveaway happen on a small scale (if you can call a 148-ft ship with 100+ guests “small”). Captain Bruce and Karen Randall, owners of Tall Ship Adventures of Chicago, have done zany pirate weddings on Windy and Red Witch. Though tall ships are equated with pirate ships, one doesn’t need to be a pirate fan to enjoy all that sailboats have to offer. Bruce and Karen Randall were married on their sailboat Crescendo and want to share the experience of their romantic venues: “There’s so much for visitors and residents to enjoy with the incredible backdrop of the wind, the waves and the skyline.”
Great Lakes Events is their event partner with valuable experience in balancing boat logistics and creating elegance out on the lake. “Ultimately, we want people to think of Windy, Red Witch and Crescendo as Chicago gems and upscale venues with outstanding skyline patios,” adds Linda Decker, Owner of Great Lakes Events. “We’re especially proud to highlight remarkable settings and the exceptional talents of our Chicago vendors.” Anthony Navarro, owner of Liven It Up Events, specializes in boutique weddings and appreciates what the tall ships offer: “There are many wonderful venues in Chicago. Windy and Red Witch offer ceremonies and cocktail receptions where everyone can tour, mingle and relax with unobstructed views of the skyline.” Appease comes to a client’s home or hotel. A wedding couple or party can then relax with spa and beauty services together without multiple trips. Carrie Novak, Owner of Appease, shares: “Our brides and grooms have truly enjoyed starting their wedding day with a couple massage to melt away all the planning stress and focus on their journey together.” Liven It Up Events and Appease are Best of The Knot award winners for 2010; Great Lakes Events won for Outstanding Chicago Events in 2009, Red Carpet Concierge.
This team takes pride in operating and supporting the greenest tour boats in Chicago. They use 85% less fuel than other commercial vessels. Tall Ship Windy is the site for the wedding ceremony; she has all the character and charm of the great days of sailing. Once her sails are set, Windy is silently pushed by the winds to create many natural elements of a spa day.
Great Lakes Events hosts a “Cocktails & Skyline Sail” aboard Red Witch to kick off the Windy wedding weekend. The Windy Wedding party will be welcomed to the city with miles of unhampered skyline as they relax on the lake. Red Witch turns heads with her dramatic crimson hull and traditional wooden schooner design.
They’ve mastered the art of sailing events and are casting off with many more vendors on board. This year’s Windy wedding that has sparked a cross-country reunion with three generations and takes place June 13, 2010. The “Sophisticated Summer” theme is stylish, timeless and green. It suits the winning couple Rennie and Greg as well as the generous wedding vendor partners.
